Ford Mustang 6th Gen Origin

The sixth generation Mustang was unveiled on December 5, 2013, in Dearborn, Michigan; New York; Los Angeles, California; Barcelona, Spain; Shanghai, China; and Sydney, Australia. S-550 is the internal project code name.

It succeeded the fifth-generation Ford Mustang (S197).

The sixth-generation Mustang differs from previous Mustang models in that all models have fully independent rear suspension and an optional 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharger and a four-cylinder direct injection engine.

The new Mustang, which was made available for the 2015 model year, commemorates Ford Mustang’s 50th anniversary. The new model retains the styling that helped Ford sell nine million Mustangs and made it a star in countless movies, TV shows, and even stamps. The Ford Mustang is difficult to ignore.

Ford Mustang 6th Gen Overview

The sixth generation Ford Mustang was the first to be sold worldwide, and also the first time a right-hand-drive Mustang was produced alongside a left-hand-drive model. It is part of the “One Ford” business strategy and applies to Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Escape, Edge, Ford Transit Connect, and Ford Transit models.

This Mustang generation differs from previous generations in numerous ways. The rear suspension is completely independent, and the exterior design has been updated from retro to more futuristic European.

The design changes were a nod to the fact that this generation was the first in the world to sell a Mustang. This model currently has four main engines: a 2.3-liter EcoBoost Inline-4 with 310 horsepower, a 3.7-liter Cyclone V6 with 300 horsepower (a 3.7-liter until 2017), a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with 435 horsepower, and a 5.2-liter Voodoo V8.

As of 2018, a 10-speed automatic transmission has replaced the previous 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions. Also in 2018, the base 3.7-liter V6 engine was phased out, and the EcoBoost turbo four became the standard engine.

All Ford Mustangs manufactured in 2015 and later include the following features as standard equipment: keyless entry, proximity key entry with door-mounted touch sensors, a push-button start system, an AM-FM stereo with a single-disc CD/MP3 player, a color LCD, the Ford SYNC System with Bluetooth hands-free phone and A2DP wireless stereo audio streaming, USB/iPod and 3.5-millimeter auxiliary audio input jacks, a cluster-mounted central color LCD driver’s display.

Sirius XM Satellite Radio, the MyFord Touch (2015) or SYNC 3v (2016+) touch-screen multimedia infotainment system with an 8-inch color touchscreen LCD, smartphone integration, app integration, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto (introduced in 2017), Sirius XM Travel Link, HD Radio, a microSD card slot, but also enhanced voice control, are among the original features. GPS navigation and a 9-speaker premium sound system or a 12-speaker Shaker Pro surround sound system is also available.

Ford Mustang 6th Gen Production

With a recent $250 million facelift, the 2024 Ford Mustang will be built at Flat Rock Assembly in Michigan. The S550 Mustang is currently being manufactured there. To commemorate the 50th anniversary, over 10,000 copies were produced worldwide. The next-generation Ford Mustang is expected to sell fewer than 100,000 units per year.
